The Digital Workplace organization within GE custom built a suite of productivity applications. During my time as a designer at GE, I re-designed the two main applications for the suite from the ground up. This was one of the first things I worked on when I joined GE. These applications were first built 20 years ago and have a lot of complex features. There was a strong need for a new UI and an improvement in the user experience.
I redesigned from the Support Central Workflow Builder from ground up. The Workflows application allows a user to take a GE Form and create an approval process around it. This application features many advanced and complex features for users. The UI definitely needed a refresh but more importantly, the user experience was sorely in need of some improvement. Workflows was so difficult to use that we had a team dedicated to helping user's build solutions and afterwards, users would often be afraid of breaking the workflow by making changes. The new user experience for this application what I am most proud of achieving during my time as a designer for GE. We took this application down to the studs and went through many iterations of wireframes and completely changed the way the user builds a Workflow with this product. The PM and engineering support during this project was excellent. We had many collaborative sessions and gathered data about how employees use this product to make data driven UX decisions for the product. We used the Lumos Design System, custom built by the Digital Workplace organization, using the default color theme using the classic GE Blue and the darker GE Blue.
