REDshare

REDshare is a secure file sharing application that is predominantly used by GE Aviation and GE Nuclear. REDshare allows user's to collaborate and file share with internal and external user's to store & share documents while staying compliant with license & regulation requirements. The REDshare application recently went through a major redesign with a focus on adopting GE's branding/color palette and to address some major user experience issues within the application.
Some of the major UX enhancements included adding a tree navigation to the left navigation so that user's could explore there repository and folder/file structure without leaving the page they were on and also navigate straight to another repo/folder/file without having to navigate back to the home page every time as a starting point. We also consolidated the navigation so user's could access other parts of the application from there as well.
We also greatly improvement the user experience of adding an unregistered collaborator to a repository. Previously, if a user wasn't registered with REDshare, they couldn't be added to a repository and user's had to manually reach out and ask a user to register with the REDshare app so they could be added to a repository. This situation commonly caused a dead-end situation for user's and was very frustrating. We worked closely with back-end engineers to design a solution that allowed for an unregistered user to be added to a repository in a pending state. The system would automatically send an email invitation, inviting the new user to register for the app. Once registered, the new user's status would be updated to Active. We did extensive user testing with the proposed solution before final mockup delivery.
